Introduction

Examples of distorted or unreadable data due to layer separation, chemical alteration to dyes, pinhole decay and various other potential factors. Collectively referred to as 'disc rot'. Extremely prevalent in recordable discs that have a sticker label across the whole surface.

The intent of this blog is to document this phenomenon and not to encourage piracy. Most of these releases are not available officially on streaming services and may be lost forever.

This project was originally hosted on Rate Your Music but was terminated after a community guideline strike. Most download links are currently missing but will be gradually added back.

Disc quality tests and manufacturers identified with Nero CD-DVD Speed. Manufacturing dates deciphered with the CD2Date tool.

Most rips are done in EAC's burst mode, which reads the disc 'as is' with no error correction. Some additional rips are done in iTunes if EAC is struggling. Secure mode does not work for discs with severe read issues, the process will either lock up and never complete, or skip the track after a specified number of attempts.

Please forgive the ugly layout. I haven't used Blogger in about 15 years. I'm doing my best.
